Our exhibition evokes the studios that once belonged to painter János Bozsó.
As a fledgling painter, he cobbled together his “little studio” in an attic in Máriaváros, on the outskirts of Kecskemét. Then, in 1957, he moved into a room in the newly renovated Klapka House—his first “real” studio—next to the official residence of the museum director at the time. Years and decades passed; the unknown, penniless artist became a recognized creator, and his passion for collecting drove him out of his studio. The former official residence was also crammed to the brim with valuable artworks. He donated his art collection to his hometown, Kecskemét. A museum opened on the site of his former studio. The artist moved to a new location within the property time and again. We set up our exhibition in the gallery established on the site of his last studio, which he used until his death in 1998. The paintings and photographs lined up one below the other and one above the other on the walls evoke the atmosphere in which the artist surrounded himself with his works, from which—in his own words—he set out to create in nature’s studio. The Klapka House, the courtyard, and the 1960s studio appear in several of his works.
